Job Purpose
The premium auditor is responsible for verifying and determining final billing exposures for workers’ compensation policies.
Essential competencies: Critical Thinking: (decision making and problem solving) Communication: (approachability) Essential Functions – must be able to perform with or without a reasonable accommodation Reviews information requested and received from policyholders to confirm accuracy of policy classification, exposure base, inclusions/exclusions, status of subcontractors, subcontractor payroll allocations.
Develops proper premium basis and complies with regulatory guidelines and deadlines.
May conduct interviews or assist policyholders with completing necessary documents in order to obtain information regarding the policyholders’ operations to obtain a better understanding and complete an analysis of the risk.
Compiles and analyzes policyholders’ accounting records.
Draft letters to policyholders to obtain more information or to communicate the outcome of an audit.
Recognizes and communicates regular and irregular audit findings to underwriting.
Determines the employment status under California law for all uninsured non-employee labor (independent contractor or employee).
Non-Essential Functions Performs other duties as assigned Premium audit process review and improvement.
Required Education, Licenses & Experience High school diploma or GED.
A minimum of three years related audit work experience.
Associate in Insurance Services designation (AIS) Demonstrated knowledge of auditing practices, procedures, and principles.
Knowledge of statutory and regulatory compliance in relation to the Workers Compensation audit process.
Ability to effectively ask questions of policyholders to draw conclusions about the operations.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to effectively resolve issues.
Critical Thinking skills: ability to make decisions with intention, reflection and reason by evaluating alternatives and analyzing risks.
Critical Thinking skills: applying analysis, creativity, resilience and logic to reach optimal outcomes.

Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, especially with Word and Excel.
Preferred Education, Licenses & Experience Bachelor’s degree, in accounting or finance preferred.
Solid knowledge of the insurance industry, and interdepartmental functions.
Working Conditions Occasionally (1-33%) Frequently (34-66%) Constantly (67-100%) Constantly reviewing and analyzing data on a computer screen and physical documents.
Frequently maintains a stationary position.
Occasionally moves around the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.
