*Controller - Multi-Family Housing (Conventional & Income Restricted)*

The Position: *As a key team member, the Controller position requires a hard-working, hands-on, individual who can multi-task, work effectively with all departments within the organization, and adapt to change in work priorities.
The Controller will have primary day-to-day responsibility for planning, implementing, and working with the accounting department to ensure all goals and deadlines are met.
*In this role you will:*
· Provide management support in various accounting, insurance and finance duties needed within the organization.
* Serve as a key point of contact for external auditors.
Manage audit and tax workpaper preparation for over 35 entities.
Assist with drafting schedules for the consolidated corporate audit.
· Review month-end closing activities including general ledger accounts, balance sheet accounts.
· Oversee daily cash management, sign checks, approve fund transfers, large expenditures, wires, ACHs.
* Work with ownership and members of the Executive Management Team to provide financial information and data requested.
* Ensure credibility of accounting and finance group by providing timely and accurate analysis of budgets, financial trends, forecasts, and financial results.
* Oversee investor and lender communications and information requests, routine reporting, approval of audits & tax returns.
* Identify refinancing opportunities, investor redemptions.
* Oversee the preparation and communication of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
* Oversee the preparation and timely filing of all local, state, and federal tax returns.
* Handle correspondence from government agencies.
* Oversee the preparation of annual project budgets, monthly budget vs.
actual analyses, etc.
* Ensure that effective internal controls are in place and ensure compliance with GAAP and applicable federal, state, and local regulatory laws and rules for financial and tax reporting.
* Lead insurance renewals, evaluate coverage proposals, identify coverage gaps, and recommend options.
* Provide Executive Management Team with advice on the financial and tax implications of business activities, proposals, etc.
* Provide guidance and support to junior accounting staff.
* Make suggestions for automating processes and increasing efficiency.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
* CPA preferred.
* Bachelor’s degree is required.
* 5+ years of experience with significant accounting responsibilities required.
* Experience in property management and/or real estate.
* Low Income Housing Tax Credit experience preferred.
* Yardi software experience preferred.
* Strong organization and communication skills.
* Solid computer skills including intermediate knowledge of MS Excel, Word, and Outlook
