We are currently looking for a Payroll Tax and Compliance Specialist to work our of our office in Sacramento, California.
The Payroll Tax and Compliance Specialist is responsible for payroll tax and compliance activities, including monitoring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
In addition, this role will research laws and regulations regarding payroll taxes and withholding procedures, analyze and verify discrepancies to assist Human Resources.
This role requires a strong understanding of multi-state tax laws, local regulations, and wage and hour laws and regulations.
Monitor, manage, reconcile payroll taxes at the employer and employee level.
Includes reconciliation to the general ledger as well as reporting, preparation, and ensure compliance.
What You’ll Do: Reconcile payroll tax reporting after each pay run to ensure accurate tax filing of service provider.
Manage filing of tax updates weekly.
Monitor quarterly tax filings.
Prepare headcount tax forms.
Reconcile payroll taxes to the general ledger and book journal entries.
Reconcile cash activity to Payroll and ADP tax services.
Reconcile payroll reports to 941s and W-2s.
Research and resolve payroll tax variances on a pay period basis.
Work proactively to improve the payroll-related human resources functions of the organization, rethinking existing strategies, processes, or structures, when necessary.
Ensure payroll tax/wage and hour compliance with local, state and federal regulations Knowledge with all state mandates ie.
Market increases, leave policies, vacation/sick policy.
Maintains skill set through continuing education and personal self-development, including working knowledge of statues that may impact payroll.
(such as FLSA, travel and relocation regulations) and knowledge of best practice/emerging developments in the payroll, human resources, and time-keeping landscape.
Research federal, state and local laws to support changing legislation regarding federal/state minimum wages, wage garnishments, earnings & tax compliance.
Special projects and research.
Research and reconciliation of payroll taxes from prior periods.
What you’ll bring: 2-4 years' experience with payroll tax filings and compliance issues.
Strong accounting skills, detail oriented, proficient in excel.
Experience reconciling and preparing W-2 forms.
Must be able to communicate effectively and in a constructive manner Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
