OVERVIEW: In coordination with the treatment team, the After-School Specialist is responsible for providing tutoring to identified youth.
The After-School Specialist works with a team approach with the residents’ interdisciplinary team in providing strength-based interventions with the youth and coordinates referrals with the AmeriCorps Tutors.
DUTIES:
Tutoring
Provides academic assistance to assigned clients either individually or in a group.
Works with Residential team to support clients’ education plans.
Works with Residential staff to support and participate in the onsite reading program.
Maintains records on each client who is tutored.
Helps residents develop a positive attitude toward learning and studying.
Works with Residential team to address any inappropriate or unsafe behavioral disturbances during tutoring program schedule.
Communicates with Residential team staff regarding participant’s progress in the program.
Facilitates weekly enrichment activities, including but not limited to: Reading to Dogs, Nutrition Education and Recreation Activities.
Facilitates daily enrichment activities including Nutrition Education, Recreation Activities, Science Activities, Expressive Arts and Arts and Crafts during non-school weeks.
Completes written documentation per residential program requirements, and in compliance with agency policy and training.
Maintains a record of each youth’s services in the currently used database.
Attends identified Residential meetings and individual meetings with Cottage Facilitators to ensure appropriate coordination of care.
Communicates with teachers verbally and electronically as needed to facilitate appropriate student learning.
Orders and processes distribution of incentives for residents
Receives referrals from Cottage Facilitators and develops schedule with AmeriCorps members based on referral requests.
Attends and participates in staff meetings, trainings, case reviews, and other meetings as required.
Communicates with interdisciplinary team regarding client needs and progress and available resources.
Attends community agency meetings as necessary.
Attends required Residential Counselor trainings such as Pro-Act and portion of the New Employee Training within the first 120 days.
Performs other duties as assigned.

SCHEDULE: Monday – Friday, 1:00 pm – 6:00 pm
SALARY: $18.
54 - $20.
85 per hour, to start
Education and Experience: A high school diploma or GED is required.
A Bachelor’s degree in human services, education, human development, counseling, or related field is preferred.
At least 1-year of experience working with children or six months’ experience in tutoring children is required.
Driving is an essential function of this job.
As such, employees in this position will be required to furnish their own vehicle to be used in the course of employment.
A valid driver’s license and minimum insurance coverage is also required.
Must be at least 21 years old.
