Child Action, Inc.
(CAI) is a private, non-profit corporation created in 1976 to promote the education and social welfare of children and families and to advocate on their behalf.
Our programs include resource and referral services for families seeking child care, child care subsidies for qualifying families, recruitment and professional development of the child care workforce, and family education and support.
We are seeking individuals who are highly organized, have the ability to multi-task, provide excellent customer service, have good problem solving skills and have the ability to understand the problems and issues facing families from a variety of ethnic and economic communities.
Position Purpose & Scope:
The Child Care Specialist has a broad knowledge of concepts, practices, and procedures within the field of early childhood education and is primarily responsible for providing child care referral services that assure
the provision of accurate and timely information to the public and technical assistance and outreach to
parents, child care providers and communities.
Child Care Specialist is responsible for knowing all guidelines, regulations, and policies developed and set forth by the Board of Directors and the Director of Community Services.
Typical Duties:
Provide child care information, resources and referrals to the general public
Provide counseling and support for families to assist with their child care search
Provide information and assistance to families in accessing community services
Provide information on child care eligibility and subsidy programs to assist families with securing long term child care
Provide assistance and ongoing support to families with their enrollment on the Child Care
Eligibility List (CEL)
Provide technical assistance on child care, child development, and parenting issues
Maintain resource files and information on child care and child development services
Collect, maintain, and provide information on child care supply and demand
Maintain information and database of broad range of child care services in Sacramento County
Maintain knowledge of the principles of a trauma-informed approach and trauma-specific interventions
Conduct regular enrollment and updating of child care providers in the referral files including listing of trauma informed care providers
Participate as a contributing member of the Child Action, Inc.
Resource and Referral Program
Integrate Touchpoints principles and assumptions into services provided to parents and child care providers
Participate in Community Education including community fairs and events
Attend staff meetings, training and unit meetings
Participate in staff development and community training opportunities
Participate in the assessment, planning, and development of program services
Document and track participant activity for program reports and service planning
Provide technical assistance and referrals to “walk-in” clients
Register and facilitate workshops, training, and educational opportunities for caregivers, child care professionals, and parents
Proactively looks for solutions to increase efficiency of work flow
Perform other duties as assigned
