Kennel assistants provide daily care for hospitalized dogs and assist with kennel maintenance (cleaning and disinfecting).
They are involved with scheduling appointments, cleaning cages and runs, bathing, grooming, exercising, feeding, administering medication, and monitoring the behavior of dogs.
They also interact with clients as they pick up and drop off their dogs.
The majority of a kennel assistants duty is to maintain the cleanliness and sanitation of the kennels as well as the hospitals and report to the veterinarian if there are any discrepancies involving our standards of care.
Kennel attendants work under the direct supervision of a kennel manager or veterinarian.
Kennel attendants may need to help handle and restrain dogs for veterinary procedures that are performed during their stay.
No degree or formal training is required to secure a position as a kennel attendant.
GED or high school diploma is preferred.
Applicants must have ambition/desire to learn and grow within the field in order to be a strong candidate as it is a competitive.
