Under supervision of the Assistant Director of Campus Recreation, and daily direction of the Equestrian Center Coordinator, clean and maintain the stalls, barns, and corrals used by horses at the Equestrian Center; maintain and repair feeding equipment and animal housing areas.

WORK ENVIRONMENT Must perform tasks that require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, safety shoes, protective clothing and gloves, etc.
May require use of a respirator.
Participate in preventive and medical monitoring programs, which may include immunizations, tetanus boosters, TB screenings, blood testing, medical surveillance, and physical examinations, to meet Federal, State and University requirements.
Position may at times require the individual to work with or be in areas where hazardous materials and/or infectious disease are present.
Specific hazards include but are not limited to: zoonoses, chemicals, pesticides, fuels, and solvents.
Work in a dusty, dirty, and odorous environment.
Must be able to tolerate foul odors, sights, and substances.
Work in an environment with regular exposure to animal dander and hay.
Work in an area with potentially dangerous large animals.
Work outdoors in all weather, can be hot, dry and dusty or cold, rainy and muddy.
This position is subject to medical surveillance procedures and review in accordance with Federal and State Laws and Regulations and University Policy.
Work occasional weekends and holidays.
Work occasional overtime.
Work schedule subject to change with prior notification.
Possess and maintain a valid California driver’s license.
Participation in Department of Motor Vehicles pull-notice system is required.
Required attendance at Animal Technician training classes at department’s discretion.

Skill and experience to recognize sick or injured animals and report condition to appropriate staff.
Skill and experience to safely operate vehicles & equipment such as tractors, hand tools, landscaping tools, and power tools; ability to learn new techniques/methods to operate equipment and tools safely and effectively.
Experience performing minor repairs to structures such as fences, barns, corrals, etc.
Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA) : Ability to communicate effectively with staff, students and customers in order to train others to perform job duties, provide high quality customer service, and project a positive image of the department and its goals.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA) : Knowledge of disinfectants, sanitation, and cleaning agents; skills to use scrubbing/cleaning equipment.
Ability to comply with all standard operating procedures (SOPs), protocols, guidelines, safety regulations, and University policy.
Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
