POSITION SUMMARY Under the administrative supervision of the Behavioral Health Clinic Manager, and the clinical supervision of a licensed medical provider, the Medical Assistant is responsible for performing patient-oriented procedures, providing support to the Children’s Behavioral Health care team for daily operations, communicating effectively with patients, providers, and other members of the health care team, and performing administrative duties.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Perform administrative duties which may include greeting patients, maintaining paper and electronic health records, telephone duties, coordination of care, completing forms, making appointments, handling correspondence, scheduling tests, and laboratory services, and assisting with areas related to billing and compliance.
Under the clinical supervision of a Registered Nurse or licensed medical provider, performs clinical duties which may include intake triage, rooming patients, vitals, urine collection, blood draws, injections, and assisting patients with mental health screenings.
Provides support to Psychiatric Providers and coordinates psychotropic medications requests for refill.
Documents as appropriate: vitals, screening and patient history personal information as needed.
Coordinates logistic support to department, including supplies and equipment.
When needed and as appropriate, interview patients to determine their needs and refer to appropriate community agencies, advocate, and coordinate on their behalf.
Maintains the standards of patient care and implements the policies and procedures of the Behavioral Health Department.
Participates in the Quality Improvement Program as instructed.
Demonstrates a high level of mental and emotional maturity and tolerance with an even temperament when dealing with ill people; uses tact, sensitivity, sound judgement, and a professional attitude when related to patients, families, and coworkers.
Provides mental health case management services and mental health support, including care coordination.
Performs other specific duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS High school diploma or GED is required.
Candidate requires graduation from a medical assistant program, or completion of the first semester of a nursing program, or any combination of education and experience that will meet the skills and competency needed.
Two years of previous case management related experience in children’s behavioral health services.
Ability to maintain sensitivity and objectivity to chronic medical and social problems, especially those specific to the Indian community.
Must possess a valid California Driver License and be insurable by the Tribe’s auto insurer.
Post job offer: CPR/BLS certification, TB test, and annual flu shot (during flu season) are required as a condition of employment, unless a medical/religious accommodation request is provided.
Hepatitis B Vaccine will be offered at no cost to employees, but it is not required.
DRUG SCREEN Shingle Springs Band of Miwok Indians requires the successful completion of a drug screening of all potential Tribal employees prior to being hired.
The Tribe recognizes that the State of California has legalized the use of marijuana.
The Tribe is located on federally owned trust land and complies with federal laws.
Therefore, marijuana use is prohibited, and all drug tests will include a screening for THC.
Shingle Springs Band of Miwok Indians recognizes a zero-tolerance drug and alcohol policy, and employees will be required to sign a Consent to Drug and/or Alcohol Testing.
Employees may be selected for alcohol / drug testing upon reasonable suspicion, and upon any/all accidents.
BACKGROUND CHECK Candidates for this position will be subject to criminal and character background checks and fingerprinting prior to being hired.
Verification of previous employment and education will also be conducted after the interview if an offer of employment is being considered.
CONFIDENTIALITY Confidentiality is an absolute requirement for this position and is cause for immediate termination if not followed to the highest standard.
NATIVE PREFERENCE Preference in hiring is given to either the most qualified applicant or a Native American candidate who meets the minimum qualifications.
When two (2) or more Native American candidates have comparable qualifications, the following order of preference shall apply: (1) Members of Shingle Springs Band of Miwok Indians; (2) Spouses or domestic partners (certified through Tribal Court) of members of Shingle Springs Band of Miwok Indians; (3) Parents of children of the Shingle Springs Band of Miwok Indians; (4) All other documented Native Americans; (5) All other applicants in accordance with Title 25, U.
