The Utilities Operations and Maintenance Supervisor will be required to oversee 6-15 staff in any section within the Wastewater Division of the Department of Utilities (DOU).
The Supervisor enforces regulatory and safety requirements, along with City policies and procedures; is expected to write personnel evaluations, discipline, and regulatory reports; and required to be in leadership roles on DOU projects.

To layout, assign, and supervise the work of crews on the construction, maintenance, and repair of water distribution, wastewater collection, and storm drainage systems.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISEDGeneral supervision is provided by a higher level position.
Responsibilities include the direct and indirect supervision of water, wastewater, and drainage field operations personnel.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES Depending upon assignment, duties may include, but are not limited to, the following: Layout, assign, supervise and participate in the construction, relocation, maintenance, and repair of water mains, sewer lines, storm drains, meters, hydrants, valves, motors, pumps, chlorinators, and related appurtenances.
Estimate quantities and order materials and equipment.
Oversee the acquisition and purchase of necessary supplies.
Maintain work time, equipment, and material records; make reports of work performed.
Inspect work in progress; assist crews in resolving difficult work problems; instruct crew members in proper work techniques and use of equipment.
Ensure compliance with regulatory, safety, certification, and training requirements.
Work with contractors to insure proper size, location, and placement of water, sewer, and drainage connections.
Explain the effect of work projects to adjacent property owners.
As assigned, oversee a meter repair operation and write specifications for new water meters.
Contact utilities customers concerning complaints.
Coordinate work with other utilities and crews.
Assist in locating utility lines and appurtenances.
Assist in budget preparation and administration.
Determine jurisdictional limits of responsibility in field operations.
Supervise, train, and evaluate subordinates.
Implement plans and coordinate with Police and Fire in emergency situations.
Service and close flood gates.
Respond to hazardous materials calls for the division.
Other related duties may also be performed; not all duties listed are necessarily performed by each individual holding this classification.

Responses to the T&E questions will be rated and scored.
This exam will evaluate the relevance, level, and progression of a candidate's education, training and experience.
The exam score will determine your ranking on the eligible list for this job.
When completing the T&E questions, please note: Responses to the T&E questions must be submitted online; paper questionnaires will not be accepted.
A resume will not substitute for the information required in the T&E questions.

Eligibility: Candidates who pass the Training and Experience Test will be placed on the eligible list.
The hiring department may contact candidates for interview at any time during the life of the one-year list.
Candidate’s eligibility expires one year from the date of notification of a passing score for the Utilities Operations and Maintenance Supervisor (Wastewater) examination.

Screening Committee: (Pass/Fail)– All candidates that pass the examination and are in one of the top three ranks will have their application forwarded to the hiring department for review.
The hiring department will select the most competitive applications for further consideration.
Human Resources will only evaluate employment applications for the minimum qualifications, as stated on the job announcement, for applications selected by the hiring department.

Conditional Hire: Upon receipt of a conditional offer, the selected candidate must complete and pass LiveScan / fingerprinting; review by Human Resources, a pre-employment medical exam, controlled substance and / or alcohol test, and possess any required licensure or certification prior to receiving a start date from the Department.
Failure to meet these prerequisites will be grounds for withdrawal of your conditional offer of employment.
