Quantitative Soil Scientist/Agronomist

Formation Environmental, LLC (Formation) is currently seeking a full-time, Soil Scientist/Agronomist to
join our rapidly growing team in the Sacramento, CA office.
We leverage remote sensing, GIS, big data,
and advanced modeling tools to tackle our client’s problems in agriculture, water quality, crop/nutrient
management, air quality, vegetation management, soil remediation, and dust control.
We are looking for
individuals who are passionate about designing, evaluating, and implementing solutions that solve our
clients’ challenges.
The successful candidate will be expected to:
• Work collaboratively with our scientists, engineers and analysts as well as our teaming partners
to deliver successful projects on-time and on-budget.
• Research, design, and implement advanced solutions that couple sound agronomic/soil science
practices with satellite imagery, advanced analytics, and process-based models.
• Drive understanding, selection, and maintenance of new and existing markets, clients, products,
and solution enhancements.
• Sustain, enhance, and build a dedicated client base.
The successful candidate will have strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
The
candidate must be detail oriented, able to work independently, and effectively interact with managers,
scientists, attorneys, administrative staff, and stakeholders.
The ideal candidate will possess the following
traits:
• Degree (M.
Sc.
or Ph.
D.
preferred) in agronomy, soil science, agricultural engineering, statistics, or
related field.
• Knowledge of western irrigated agriculture and cropping systems.
• Knowledge in irrigation management related to water quality, salt, and nitrates.
• Experience with data processing and statistical analysis using R, Matlab, Systat, SigmaPlot, Python,
or similar.
• Proficient in GIS.
• Experience in modeling water quality, fate and transport, carbon and/or nitrogen cycling.
• Experience with report writing.
• Experience with outreach and education to growers regarding irrigation and nutrient
management practices.

The salary range for this position is $70,000-$85,000, commensurate
with education, experience, and ability.
