Job Summary
Registered Nurses in the Operating Room department at UC Davis Medical Center provide care to adult and pediatric patients with a variety of perioperative (medical surgical, critical care, emergent, perioperative) needs.
Patient conditions include: Diagnosis amenable to surgical intervention; ASA 1 thur ASA VI, which spans a “normal healthy patient” through a "declared brain-dead patient whose organs are being removed for donor purposes.
Perioperative nurses provide surgical patient care by assessing, planning, and implementing the nursing care patients receive before, during and after surgery.
These activities include patient assessment, creating and maintaining a sterile and safe surgical environment, pre- and post-operative patient education, monitoring the patient’s physical and emotional well-being, and integrating and coordinating patient care throughout the surgical care continuum.
During surgery, perioperative nurses assume the following roles: (1) Circulating Nurse – who works outside of the sterile field and is responsible for managing the nursing care within the O.

by observing the surgical team from a broad perspective and assisting the team in creating and maintaining a safe, comfortable, and therapeutic environment [reference UCDH OR/SDSC Policy ID C-5], and (2) Scrub Nurse—who works directly with the surgeon within the sterile field by passing instruments, sponges, and other items needed during the surgical procedure [reference UCDH Perioperative Services Structure Standards].
This position will be assigned work in the Main Operating Room, Children’s Surgery Center, Same Day Surgery Center, University Tower Surgery Suite or other operating room location.
Apply By Date: March 1, 2024 Minimum Qualifications Six (6) months RN experience in circulating and scrubbing complex surgical procedures.
At least one year paid RN experience in a similar setting Valid California Registered Nurse License without restriction American Heart Association (AHA) BLS CPR or UCDH-issued CPR Certification Ability to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
Ability to utilize medical terminology appropriately.
Knowledge of current trends in nursing.

Effective interpersonal skills.
Demonstrates accountability and professionalism.
Adapts to change in a positive, professional and productive manner.
Knowledge of legal implications in clinical practice and documentation.

Preferred Qualifications CNOR within six (6) months of hire BSN Department Description The department delivers patient care through provision and management of capital, supplies, instrumentation, and technological support as well as human resources in collaboration with medical and para-medical staff to effectively manage patients undergoing elective, urgent, and emergent surgical intervention.

28 Salary Frequency: Hourly Salary Grade: 107 Payroll Title: NURSE PD Number of Positions: 1 Appointment Type: Per Diem Percentage of Time: 43% Shift Hours: 1830-0700 Location: Main Hospital, Sacramento Union Representation: Yes Benefits Eligible: No Hybrid/Remote/On-Site: On-Site Physical Demands and Work Environment Works overtime as defined by the collective bargaining agreements, floats to other areas and works weekends and holidays.

Ability to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally.
Special Requirements This position is a critical position and subject to a background check and drug screen.
Employment is contingent upon successful completion of background investigation including criminal history, identity checks and drug screen.
