Description from Reverb.
I picked this up recently but haven't had time to play so I'm selling.
Up for sale, a 2010 Fender Mustang Bass, thoroughly upgraded with a nitro lacquer body finish, boutique Curtis Novak pickup, USA wiring harness, and WD pickguard.
Made in Japan, this Mustang is a faithful, discontinued reissue of the classic short scale Fender model, officially model MB-SD.
This iteration of the Mustang Bass was made for the Japanese domestic market and is rarely seen outside its country of origin, yet with the bevy of upgrades, it's much more akin to its USA-made forebearers from the 1960s.
Via the Curtis Novak "Fat" Mustang Bass gray bobbin pickup, this slightly overwound and fuller-sounding take on the Mustang Bass' traditional split coil has a certain pluck and punch unique to this bass that's particularly appealing and sits well in a mix.
Via the groundwound 45-105 strings (a middle ground between roundwounds and flats), there's a rich thump that fills out the bass register nicely while being a bit more focused than a Precision Bass, with a slightly aggressive, midrange-forward quality.
The instrument is also particularly lightweight at only 8lbs.
The maple neck has a slender C profile carve at the nut with lightly rolled fretboard edges, prominent shoulder in every register, and notable heft as you travel up the fretboard, measuring .
815" deep at the 1st fret and 1.
005" at the 12th.
The thick slab rosewood fretboard retains the original slender frets which have well-rounded crowns and their full factory height, playing cleanly in every register and showing virtually no wear.
The scale length is 30", while the fretboard radius matches vintage spec at 7 1/4" and the nut width measures 1 1/2".
On the headstock, the clover button tuning gears turn very smoothly, and the block "Mustang Bass" logo is present on the headstock face.
The "Made in Japan" text and U-prefix serial are present just above the four-bolt neck plate.
The simple and straightforward electronics work as they should, with Master Volume and Tone controls to govern the split coil Curtis Novak pickup.
The wiring harness has been upgraded with full-size USA-made CTS pots, a Switchcraft jack, a Sprague Orange Drop tone cap, and cloth-covered leads.
The chrome-plated bridge and control plate are positively gleaming, and the white one-ply USA-made WD pickguard contrasts with the nitro lacquer body finish.
Toeing the line between a saturated Shoreline Gold and a shade of Champagne, this unique genuine nitro lacquer body refinish was professionally executed, and cosmetic wear limited to some small dings, mostly on the body parameter, with some concentrated marks at the bass-side waist on the back.
The neck profile retains its original ambered (poly) gloss finish.
A black tolex Fender-branded G&G hardshell case is included.
